If you told us which model that was or roughly when, then your comment would be more helpful.

A huge chunk of the content that was scraped was most likely provided voluntarily rather than being waged labour.

Either way, a change did happen, financial impact aside this change is definitely going to disrupt the ecosystem as a whole which is a much bigger unknown at this point.

People committing work get rewards in different ways, waged labour could be one, attributions, acknowledgements, future job opportunities and more. Stripping those from the rightful owners can hardly be justified in the name of progress.

I wasn't implying that it was okay to "steal" things because they were offered voluntarily. My position on this is kind of complex and nuanced but this particular reply was meant to state the opposite.

You don't need 4k in the headset panels to simulate a 4k monitor. The virtual screen isn't glued to your head.

No, you need a much higher res screen to do so. A 4k screen a meter away will have ridiculously higher pixel density per degree of vision than a 2K screen directly in front of your eye that will only ever be able to do very partial coverage. The effective angular res of the virtual screen would probably be comparable to 1080p at best. In Norm's review it's said that the default render res for flat screen is 720p.

I work on a Quest 3 no problem. This is sharper.

For me personally the Quest 3 is absolutely unusable for any text work. Even small font in games looks shitty. This is so far off for what it ought to be for comfortable work that I'll wait for devices with at least double the resolution per axis, i.e. 4x the pixels of the Quest 3 screens to even bother trying again.

Edit: And I'm writing this on a 32" 2560x1440 display which looks just dandy to me, so it's not like I'm super sensitive or have above average eyesight (quite the opposite actually)

I have tried this in the past and it wasn’t nearly sharp enough but I guess I see people using 1080p screens at work and those make me want to rip my eyeballs out.

Honestly I'be tried Quest 3 and it was not enough for me to consider it anything more than just a toy.

How many hours a day you spend in it? How often do you use it?

Most days often for several hours.

I disagree and I've got one

Just increase size/scaling of everything I guess right?

No .sog support? I can't tell if .spz or .sog is likely to win out as a de facto standard - or whether both will co-exist but annoyingly I've gravitated towards .sog as it seemed technically superior and I'd be mildly inconvenienced if it became a niche format.

I think that .sog and .spz fill different needs.

.SOG is a partitioned format with LOD support, thus it is designed for massive gs3d scenes. SPZ is has neither of those features, and thus is simpler. Given that ThreeJS itself doesn't yet support partitioning and LOD for its gs3d data - although it will come eventually - I figured that SPZ was a good fit for its initial capabilities. SPZ also has wider support right now compared to SOG.

Ha! I added a similar feature to Open Brush: https://docs.openbrush.app/user-guide/multimirror

And learned a bit about group theory in the process... :-/

I both love you and curse you for that mod.

I still haven't got around to playing Outer Wilds despite knowing enough to know I should. Because I keep thinking "I can only play it once - I should play it in VR" and then never getting around to it.

Ironically less so as they've added more to do but:

> NMS is an amazing game with no soul.

I found the game in the early days to be incredibly soulful - it was almost an interactive poem. Full of emptiness and loss. I loved it back then.

And that's great! It's what I meant by some brains being wired exactly right for it. I can recognize it as being very right for some people! But something about it was very wrong for me, and clearly many others. I wish I understood it.

Ah, but there was a (maybe unintentional) implication that the people who loved it were oblivious to "soul" or something like.

(The core problem here is that aesthetic disagreements are often expressed in a way that makes them sound like moral failings. I do it myself far too often)

Same. I really want to play it but - I feel I need to skip the first hour to do so?
